Can't change channel on NETGEAR Wireless Adaptor with iwconfig

Hi. Im trying to connect my laptop to my wireless router and having some troubles.

hardware info:
NETGEAR MA111 Wireless Usb Adaptor
NETGEAR MR814v2 Wireless Router

I logged into the router configuration. I found out the SSID and made sure the adapter was set to the same SSID. While in the configuration i saw that the router is at channel 11. As root i did:

Code:

iwconfig wlan0 channel 11
i get this output.

Code:

inux:/home/jeff # iwconfig wlan0 channel 11
Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported.

i also got that same message when trying to set the SSID from the command line. (Did it through Yast). Can you not change channels on USB Adaptors? When i do iwlist scanning it just says no scan results. I imagine if i could change the channel to 11 it would pick up the router. Can anyone give me some guidance? Thanks for any help in advance.

Hummm, messed with tons of wireless stuff, but never had to change the channel. You're sure the adapter is actually installed (i.e. there's a driver for it or you've installed one through ndiswrapper)?
