I have a LAN card, a webstar cable modem with USB and LAN interface, and some cables.
I have no Idea how to install internet. I'm working through WinXP and USB,
but Win SUXX(sorry about that but I wanted to say it). I think Linux will go for LAN, but... So how do I make the internet work( MDK 9.1, dynamic IP, no Idea if provider dhCP or stuff). 10x in advance.
hook the modem to the cable outlet on the wall. Next, ethernet cable from modem to your computer. Make sure the network card is set to turn on during boot and the configuration set for dhcp (thats dynamic IP).
Personally, may I suggest a router? Many have built-in firewalls to protect from trojans, and you can share it with lots of computers ... and while I may sound like an add, you can get a wireless Linksys ( 802.11b ) for $70 at Walmart. The mobility is definetly worth it for laptops and when you have guests.
Kuel!10x peoplez.
Am... Plug and pray sux mostly, but I have only one LAN card. I'll buy a hub I guess. The next thing to do is find out how to make Mandrake tink that I am interneting through LAN...
I have been doing only ppp so I am still a dhcp caveman.
And I am the only Linux user in the cable operator's domain.
how's that for Win monopoly in Bulgaria... oh sorry, everybody has the cracked version from one of three biggest database servers in bulgaria.
Infact, I get my Mdk IMGs from there (shut up datalus, shut up... nobody cares...)
