Cable Modem

I have the Motorola SB4200 cable modem (USB). Just installed Mandrake 9.0 and I am new, VERY NEW to linux.

I know that I can install it and connect to the cable modem via my ethernet card but I don't want to do this as my ethernet card connects me to the rest of the LAN. How do I install the modem?

Any ideas please?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

IMO, the easiest way to hook up a cable modem to a computer is to get a router. Either linksys, D-link, Netgear, etc. will do. Make sure you look through your GUI Network settings and enable automatically get IP or something similar because the router will act like a DHCP server. Remember to also enable automatically get IP addresses on other computers.
