C-Media 8738 Drivers
I have been having huge problems with Redhat 9 and C-Media 8738 albeit semi trivial. I have sound but I cannot enable the multi-channel sound modules. When I am Playing music in XMMS and I have say yahoo messenger open. Its alerts stack up while the music plays then when XMMS stops they flow through. I was hoping the Multi-Channel drivers would fix this. Let it be noted I have been using Linux for about 10 hours now so I am a Newbie. I get errors when sending the make modules command.
sb_common.c:1294: warning: data definition has no type or storage class
make[2]: *** [sb_common.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/drivers/sound'
make[1]: *** [_modsubdir_sound] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/drivers'
make: *** [_mod_drivers] Error 2
These are the end of the errors to keep it brief. Also after making modules and editing my modules.config it cannot locate snd-cmipci. I have read the tutorials thouroughly on doing this and I feel either the Drivers are crap or I am retarded. Perhaps someone has an answer.
Here is my modules.conf
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias snd-card-0 snd-cmpci
alias snd-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
options snd-cmpci snd_enable_midi=1 snd_enable_fm=1
alias eth0 3c59x
alias usb-controller usb-uhci
I have install the latest ALSA it said soemthing about updating my modules too although I wasnt sure how to do this.... Maybe, like I said, I am just retarded.
