Build a DAW - audiorecording computer - Tips ?
Hello,
I'm a Linux newbie who wants to build a Linux-based , fast and cheap DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) . The cost for the hardware should be between 500 and 1000 euro's . I'd prefer to use the Gentoo distro to get the fastest result. I'm making a webpage about it on http://users.skynet.be/freakrush/daw.html so others can learn from my search . Any general tips concerning the best choice of hardware are very welcome .. I have a midiman usb midisport 2x2 that I want to use , and a Linux incompatible (as far as I know) Midiman Dman 2044 soundcard that I'll have to replace by another one , one with 8 balanced analog inputs or a rackmounted interface (with spdif , optical , adat options , good but not necessary in my case). A graphics card for 2 monitors would be great too (I thought of a Matrox G450), and the machine should be as silent as possible... Any usefull hints , or links to sites about similar subjects are very appreciated , so thanks in advance ... Freakrush |
