BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0 and BUG: spinlock recursion on CPU#0 ...

Hello everyone,

I installed Fedora 5 on my machine and it doesn't boot successfully. When it says "Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.", it stops for maybe a minute and then it shows following error messages:

Quote:

BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0!

BUG: spinlock recursion on CPU#0, swapper/0 (Not tainted)
lock: c035ef80, .magic: dead4ead, .owner: swapper/0, .owner_cpu: 0
Kernel I am using is version 2.6.15. I think there might be a problem with my disk drive. While installing, it also stuck for some minutes when looking for a hard drive type.

Could there be a problem also because I have a dual boot system on one physical disk - with Windows XP?

I also tried to install Fedora 4 twice, and it also couldn't boot or took a really long time to boot.

My Windows XP, NTFS partition, works fine.

Most likely a driver problem. Make sure you're using the latest stable versions of your disk drivers (i.e. try FC6). What kind of disk are you using?

My disk is connected as an ATA disk, ExcelStor Technology J340 is the exact name.

Try installing this RPM: http://fr.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/sour...36-1.i386.html

It provides software to control and monitor drives like yours, according to the description.
