'bttv' device stack via USB for Hauppage WinTV
Hi folks,
I have a Hauppage WinTV NOVA-t USB that is puzzling me, this device is the only reason I now keep XP on my box. I have spent months trawling the net to get this thing working with Linux, and have followed many sets of instructions with no success. I have the support compiled into my kernel (2.6.3), 'dvb-ttusb-budget' 'usbvision' and all the other libraries are in place etc, but I can get no sign of the thing operating except under XP where it is faultless.
I would like to use Xine as the frontend. The USB system works flawlessly with all my other hardware, Xine works sweetly when playing DVDs etc, but when DVB is selected reports "There is no pugin available to handle dvd//", other frontends (totem, KWinTV) behave similarly.
It strike me that an understanding of the device stack could be of great help in solving this. What creates the '/dev' entries (kernel, drivers or what)? Do the drivers sit on '/dev/videoX'? What sits between my usb hardware and the the '/dev/videoX' entry? What would 'Xine' be looking for? etc.
I realise my question is too big to be answered on a list like this, but could anyone give me any pointers to the desired info? Relevant distros are Mandrake 10.0 & Slackware 10.0.
Cheers, Kim Giles
