Brother Printers and Linux Drivers?

Hi, does linux have a good driver for Brother Printers?

I am about to use Ubuntu Netbook and Ubuntu Studio. The Printer is about two years old.

Search for a PPD file at their site for that model and if that doesn't work also search http://www.cups.org/ppd.php .

You can try to plug it in and do a Find Printer using cups or printing in the Administration menu.

Another resource is the Open Printing printer database. You can search for the specific make/model you are interested in.

OpenPrinting would be another site to look at. You should have provided more information.

FYI: I suggest that you look at 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' so in the future your queries provide information that will aid us in diagnosis of the problem or query.

Brother printers, at least the lasers, have excellent linux support. I have a HL-5250DN and setup was very easy. It would help if we knew the printer model you are attempting to connect.

I will also vouch for excellent support for Brother printers in Linux.
On two occasions I have contacted Brother directly about problems I was experiencing in Linux; on both occasions I received quick, knowledgeable and helpful replies.
