broken sound card

I probably not have enough information yet. I was at my parents' I brought over a computer and I put Slackware 13.1 on it. I know I used to have sound on that machine. Also I know after I put Slackware 13.1 on it that I used alsamixer.

I open computer box and move CD drive down a slot so open tray not hit something. Now when computer start KDE says message like "NVidia sound driver not working" or something like that. And alsamixer not even start. It say unable to load or something.

Did I break soundcard when taking computer apart? What about those big flat IDE cables? If I put different hookup in CD drive that make any difference?

I know I have little information here, I try to post more next time I at parents. Just wondering if this sound like familiar issue to anyone.

k thx I try that. I mark thread as solved for now I not have access to that comp so I try later.

I have bad feeling though because sound always work before and then it stop working when I move junk around inside comp. I think I break something. Not software issue.

Ha! It have something to do with runlevel. I make computer runlevel 4 with /etc/inittab so it boot straight to KDM. Then I add parents' to groups 'power' and 'plugdev' so now they can use comp and CD's will automount. And they not know root password so computer not get messed up.

I learn how to do it here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...t-user-812400/

But then sound not work. So I try runlevel 3 again and sound work. I think maybe add parents' to another group and sound work again in runlevel 4. I not know how to fix this yet but maybe I can figure out.
