Broadcom BCM4306 HP Pavillon ZV5000 under SuSe 10.1

So, after install the driver bcmwl5 and confimed that driver is installed and hardware present by ndiswrapper -l, I tried modprobe ndiswrapper (no messages feedback), iwconfig and the following message appears:

lo no wirelles extension

eth0 no wirelles extension

sit0 no wirelles extension

I also tried scan networks by kwifimanager and nothing.

It means I`m doing something wrong, and my hardware isn`t congigured yet.

Somebody know the answers?

Wallace Honorio

did you write an alias to modprob.conf for the interface?

otherwise if you've done all the steps described by ndiswrapper then
try ifconfig -a

Did you try the native linux support for broadcom before moving on to ndiswrapper?

So, first of all I made sudo ndiswrapper -m and:

Adding "alias wlan0 ndiswrapper" to /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper

iwconfig -a:

-a No such device

wich ndiswrapper:

/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper

After that I tryed check in the /etc/modprobe.conf with less and in Alias -specify your hardware:

install eth0 /bin/true
install eth1 /bin/true
install tr0 /bin/true
install scai_hostadapter /bin/true
install fb0 /bin/true
and nothing for wla0.

ifconfig:

only eth0 and l0

with dmesg |grep -i ndiswrapper:

ndiswrapper: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag.
ndiswrapper version 1.10 loaded (preempt=no,smp=no)
ndiswrapper (check_nt_hdr:149): Windows drive is not 64bit; bad magic: 010B
ndiswrapper (load_sys_files:213): couldn`t prepare driver `bcmwl5`
ndiswrapper (load_wrape_driver:111): loadniswrapper failed (65280); check system log for messages from `loadniswrapper`.

I think it means that I need the driver bcmwl5 for 64 bits. This I taked off by my Windows CD, and I alredy tried, but the version for Ndiswrapper I used can`t leave me install. Thus I used a pakage that I found with the wrong drive, maybe just for 32bits.

Do you know that Ndisrapper Version I shall use?

Bets Regards!!!

obs.: How can I use tha native linux support for broadcom ?

Just google " bcm43xx-fwcutter " and you should find lots of stuff (much better than ndiswrapper)

The airport card in my iBook is a BCM4306 and it works great with the native driver in 2.6.18 I've never tried ndiswrapper for obvious reasons.
