Broadcom 4401 Not working

Hi,

I have read a lot of threads about this network card and linux, but I haven't been able to get it working. My main problem is that I'm running Mandrake 10 Official Download kernel 2.6.3-7mdk, and the driver that it detects just doesn't work. I'm 90% it's a driver problem and not a network problem. The card is detected alright, but it can't access the network. I tried downloading the Broadcom 4401 linux drivers and installing them, but it didn't appear to work.

From what I can see, (I don't have alot of expertise, I think I should probably sit down and read a HOWTO properly), there is a module called b44, build into the OS, which Linux is using, when I try and setup the card using a module called bcm4400, using drakconf, it doesn't accept it, and flashes up some error that I can't see.

In addition, I'm not sure that the bcm4400 module works with this distribution, as I haven't found any documentation for it with Mandrake 10.

Could someone please give me a hand?

Just to be a little more specific for you kind folks...

I tried rmmod b44 and insmod bcm4400, then did ifup eth0, and checked dmesg. This is what I found:

bcm4400: no version magic, tainting kernel.
eth0: Broadcom BCM4401 100Base-T found at mem...
bcm4400: eth0 NIC Link is up...
eth0: No IPv6 routers present

If you still didn't solve your poblem,
You should have a look at page :
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2030
for your problem. It may help, and you should try, either an upgrade of the kernel to 2.6.6 or 2.6.8. Don't know much about this, except that I have some problems with an upgrade from kernel 2.4.20 to 2.6.2.

With V2.4.20, my Broadcom was ok on a direct internet connection, and it is ok when when used in a local netwok. I used the bcm4400 driver found on broadcom site. If you are interested, you can check a subject I started called "local network configure failed" in linux networking forum.

Hope it helps you, xround.
