Broadcom 440 onboard NIC and SuSe 8.0
I just installed Suse 8.0 today, and this is my first time using Linux. Here is my problem: I was able to get the drivers to install for the NIC, but now I am getting DHCP timeout errors. I have done ifup eth0, and dhcpcd commands to no avail. When I type in ifconfig, a device called lo is the only one displayed, and every time I boot into linux I have to use the ifup eth0 command to get my ethernet card to register with ifconfig.
So here are my questions.
1. How do I get eth0 to startup everytime automatically?
2. What is lo and how do I get rid of it?(firewire port maybe?)
3. How can I get DHCP to work?
Thanks for your help
Walter
Update: I got my ethernet card to work! I am able to access my router if I manually set an IP address, but cannot access the internet. Any help on setting up my network would be great. Thanks
Another Update: I got it to work! I don't really know how I did it, but I am currently typing this in linux! my solving this problem was all thanks to the other threads on this board. Thanks all!
