try this:
Code:
modprobe snd_intel8x0
If there is still no sound, make sure that the mixer device is not turned all the way down.
Turned up and still no go? (As root)Try . . .
Code:
chmod 666 /dev/dsp*

AMD boxen (Like my one) often use Via or SiS chipsets. Post the soundcard section of 'lspci -v'

OK, here's the stuff-

OK...mmmm
I got the rear speaker jack working!
But, it only has 2 jacks, one in front(doesn't work) and the one in the back
Now, I'm assuming the headphone/speaker jack in the front is BAD
should I try to re-solder it or would that screw up the PC?
Never tried fixing a speaker jack in a PC....?
OH, headphone cord isn't long enough to reach rear jack, so I need front jack working
Why does this thing have everyhting nVidia?
does nvidia make PC's or what?
the case, everything else doesn't list manufacturere or anything?
maybe it's a home-built pc or something?

It's possible that the two jacks are connected to different outputs of the codec.
Try enabling surround and center/LFE jacks:
enable "Surround", "Center" and "LFE"
set "Surround Jack Mode" to "Independent"
set "Channel Mode" to "6ch"
set "Duplicate Front"

nVidia built the chipset (nForce2) of your motherboard.
It's listed as separate devices so that it's easier to configure and to load drivers for them, but it's all just a bunch of transistors in the north and south bridge chips.

It seems like everything is configured and working, but we're talking about not getting sound from the jack built into the chassis.
The back jack is coming straight off of the motherboard, and the front is a part of the chassis . . . are we certain that the front jack's cable is plugged into the right spot on the motherboard?

I didn't say "everything", I listed the control you should try to set.
If your GUI mixer doesn't show those controls, run alsamixer in a terminal. (Use M to enable/disable, i.e., unmute/mute things.)

The front panel connector is standardized and has 10 pins.
You can post a photo of your motherboard somewhere.

This is true, however the connection that I am talking about should be a four pin connection separate from the main front panel connection. It is usually somewhere near the sound chip set and labeled "sound" or "audio."
Simply locate the wire bundle coming off of the sound jack in the front of your chassis and find what it is plugged into. The pin configuration is unique, and, if it's plugged in anywhere on the motherboard then odds are it's in the right place. If not, try to locate the appropriate place to connect it. Like I said, it is unique and should not fit anywhere that it does not belong.
