Bootup freezes after removal of USB devices

Hello all, this is my first post here. I have Fedora Core 3 installed, with kernel 2.6.9-1.678_FC3 on an HP Pavilion ze5170 laptop. I have a Canon i960 printer, CanoScan D1250U2F, and Logitech Wireless Optical Mouse all on USB. I had the devices plugged in during the initial installation. Whenever I remove the devices (which comes in handy when I want to move the laptop :P) my system hangs at bootup. It gets past the initialization of the hardware, storage, and audio and moves to the next screen but hangs with a blank screen after that. I haven't tried narrowing it to a specific device, but I suspect that it is the printer, as the scanner hasn't been truly installed, and I don't see the mouse being removed as causing a problem, but who knows. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If more information is needed, let me know. Thanks,
hontoo
