booting live linux from an external hdd

i want to boot a live version of linux from as an external hdd.. wat are the procedures to be carried out for tat?..

Should be pretty much the same as booting from a USB flash memory stick, I'd guess. Lots of help at the site above. It is dependent on the BIOS of the computer and available boot options.
