boot from external hd

I just installed Mepsis on an external hd, to try it out. I told it to install grub in the mbr of the external hd. I have my bios set to boot:
removable media
CD/DVD
hard drive
network

but it doesn't boot. Do you know what might be the problem?

We've had a lot of problems setting bios to boot from usb drives, removable media..

Your best chance is to try on various computers so you see if grub is installed correctly.

Many bios's actually view some external drives not as removable but a real hard drive. Do a cold boot to bios with external connected and powered up beforehand. See if your hard drive choice now shows a choice to move up the external. If so move up that and go back to hd first boot choice.
