Bluetooth vs WIFI for a project
I was discussing microphones with one of my teachers yesterday. He mentioned that the FCC is limiting the available bandwidth for wireless mics. I thought why not use a basic stamp or pic as a network interface and create a network of microphones over WIFI. However, after some reading, I am thinking bluetooth may be better. We have a theater that uses several large diaphram mics and probably 7 or 8 wireless sets. The stage is probably 100-200 feet across and 50 feet deep. The booth is in the back of course. Here are the two systems I was thinking of.
Using an A/D converter with a microphone cartarge attached. A pic microcontroller would take the digital signal and convert it to a MIDI stream. Then, the MIDI stream would be broadcast over WIFI to a router on the side of the stage. From there, the signal would travel over a gigabyte network to a main computer in the back where a custom app would sort and mix the signals and feed them to the main amp. There could also be a web GUI on each mic to taylor it to the individual user. Advantages multiple mics on the same channel high bandwidth and speed highly tuneable The other thought I had was some bluetooh mics. However, I don't know a lot about blutooth. There is where I really need opinions. I was there could be several USB recievers above the stage connected to a computer and have the computer create a MIDI stream that can run to a control computer in the booth. The problem I run into. With the WIFI, I know I can have several different streams that can be mixed in the back. Can I create a MIDI stream for each mic with bluetooth? Also, would I be able to tune the bluetooth mics? I know bluetooth will not have the range of WIFI. Do you think it will still work? I just want some opinions one one vs the other. Thanks. |
There are wireless mics to use in live performances. Here are a couple of URLs that I got from Google.
http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/fe...780/index.html http://www.dak.com/reviews/2030story...FQEpGgodjRpyjQ I found those by using Google to search for theater wireless microphone |
Thanks for the links. My idea was to get away from the conventional ones and try everything via WIFI. That way, everything would use the same channel. After talking with a few people, I have a design in mind.
