Bluetooth now working after Debian Etch to Lenny upgrade

Sorry, the subject should read not working, but I can't change that now.

After upgrading I find that my Bluetooth adaptor (I've tried 2) is not being detected, even though the module is loaded and the status is shown as "UP". It was working fine before the upgrade.

On plugging in I get:

Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 kernel: [52916.536023] usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 kernel: [52916.808887] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 kernel: [52916.814279] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0a12, idProduct=0001
Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 kernel: [52916.814291] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 hcid[5975]: HCI dev 0 registered
Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 hcid[5975]: HCI dev 0 up
Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 hcid[5975]: Device hci0 has been added
Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 hcid[5975]: Starting security manager 0
Feb 22 11:57:05 babylon5 hcid[5975]: Device hci0 has been activated

This is the output from hciconfig:

$ sudo hciconfig
hci0: Type: USB
BD Address: 00:10:603:B6:B2 ACL MTU: 310:10 SCO MTU: 64:8
UP RUNNING PSCAN
RX bytes:1209 acl:0 sco:0 events:26 errors:0
TX bytes:596 acl:0 sco:0 commands:25 errors:0

Yet the tray icon shows no adapter, and if I start/restart bluetooth:

$ sudo invoke-rc.d bluetooth start
Starting bluetooth: hcid hid_devicesNo devices in HID mode found
rfcomm.

Any ideas what's missing?

You need to add your ordinary user(s) to group netdev (log in as root and do adduser myusername netdev). This appears in the Debian bug tracking system as bug 520856 although the maintainers are not sure that it should be thought of as a bug.
