Bluetooth does not work - "can't load firmware" - Vaio - Ubuntu 14.04
 

Everything goes well with my new Vaio laptop except the bluetooth. It is recognized in some way but it does not work.

I did this:

So I tried to install linux-firmware as suggested in a forum but it says I have the last version yet.

Also I found a suggestion about restarting gnome-bluetooth but it didn't work.

Any idea? :)

Maybe if you told us what model of Vaio we'd know a bit more. However, there appears to be a good bit of information about this, and several possible fixes. The Bluetooth adapters on the Vaios are typically 'hybrid' cards...wifi and bluetooth in one, so if you have the wifi turned off at the switch, bluetooth is also off. Most of the newer models use broadcom devices, and there is a known issue with Ubuntu and that device. Some options:

My question is... If this errors are so easily fixed, it affects a lot of people with the same device and the error is just about a firmware thing why aren't they fixed faster by the community through the update manager?

Because want times the firmware has to be reverse engineered, since the manufacturer won't release specs. Or there are several versions of firmware, or it has to be tested with whatever conditions the distro says. Ask the Ubuntu managers.
