Blu-Ray drive compatibility

I am considering purchasing a BD recorder. There are 3 models which currently fit my needs. All are USB 3.0. I want to use it primarily as a backup device. They are
1. Liteon eHBU 212-OB
2. Plextor PX-LB950UE
3. ASUS BW-12 DIS-U/BLK/G
I am currently using Ubuntu 11.04 but may soon switch to Debian.
Any input as to compatibility would be appreciated.

Hi,

I don't have a usb bluray ROM , but do have a working bluray (reader only) connected via SATA, and it works well. It's a SONY optiarc. drive. It registers as a normal SCSI drive (/dev/sr0)
Playing bluray movies is another story though : i have to open the disk using makemkv and stream it to mplayer through a local socket.

I have one USB DVD drive working, so I suppose that a usb blueray drive should work too...
