Thanks for your pointer. I was able to startx in failsafe mode and was able to fix and install several things. Got my ethernet iface up & running too. Fixed my booting/current problem too. This is what I had to do for my hardware configuration:
1. I have a wide aspect panel monitor that offers resolution of 1680x1050 and was not supported by my graphics card (ATI RADEON 9100 IGP, built into ASUS P4R 800 VM motherboard). I think the linux drivers need to be updated inorder to get a resolution above the standard.
2. Went to the ATI site and under linux downloads found a installer for x86. Downloaded the installer which will auto update the xorg.conf and requires to run a config at the end.
3.I restarted my machine and to my suprise, the suse booted out from hard-disk this time with no probs.
