Have you had Fedora 6 installed for some time?
Is this a new problem?
Have you made any changes to your system immediately prior to encountering this problem?
If so, what, new software, updates, new hardware?
Do you have any other operating systems on the computer?

man that is a old system and has had no security fixes in a very long time ( 4 years)

-- i hope that THIS MACHINE is NOT connected to the internet, it BETTER be a stand alone with NO network connected to it !!

what did you do last to it

new software will not apply -- there IS NO NEW SOFTWARE for it .
unless you built and installed some source code from 4 years ago -- new source code programs WILL NOT WORK OR RUN on that old of a system .
