Bizarre cursor behavior with A4Tech trackball

Copied and pasted from my post earlier on the Arch Linux forums:

The effect is almost exactly as if I were using the "mouse" driver with the wrong protocol, albeit temporary... But I'm using the right one (ImPS/2), and this happens with both the ordinary "mouse" driver and evdev. It also happens only with my A4Tech trackball, not with any other trackball or mouse I've tried.

Also, the cursor occasionally ceases to respond to any movements of the trackball. AFAICT, this can only be fixed only by unplugging the trackball from the PS/2 port and plugging it back in, with the machine of course being powered down during that procedure to prevent possible damage. I've tried restarting X and simply rebooting, but they don't fix this latter problem - the PS/2 connector *has* to be pulled out and stuck back in, no idea why. Again, this happens only with the A4Tech trackball, not with anything else.

That was posted on March 10, and my trackball woes haven't vanished for one day since then; and it's only with my A4Tech WWT-13, never with any other hardware. Can someone please tell me what's going wrong? This is the only trackball with a scrollwheel I've ever seen that feels like it's designed for human hands...

Umm sorry don't know what the issue could be. I'm using it with "ExplorerPS/2" but i have also had it running with ImPS/2 and just Auto. I agree it's a lovely device; the problem i am having is i can never get the second wheel to work in gentoo. It works in mandriva..

Good luck tho, and if you need any feedback from another usr just ask. I'll subscribe to this thread.
