BIG PROBLEM ASUS A7V8X + SATA + Promise Ultra 133 TX

Hi Guys,

I have big problems with my machine

I have a ASUS A7V8X based machine. In the machine i have an extra PROMISE controller. It works perfectly,
And now i am trying to install a 250 GB SATA disk into to it.
And now i get big problems...

I have installed the drivers for the Promise 376 chip-set on the machine.
I have no problem to read from the disk.

BUT when i try to copy data between the IDE controller that are on a PCI slot and sata disk. Then The machine hangs. Only way to get it to work again is to power it down.

Was thinking if there was any IRQ collision.
I have disable all extra device i have tried to hard code the IRQs on on slots. But no GO...

Anyone having any clue what can be wrong..

It works perfect to copy data from the internal PATA controller to the SATA.
I only have problem to copy between the 2 promise devices..

Excuse my English...
And feel free to ask me more questions about my machine...

I'm sorry to say that I have that very same Mother board and had almost the same problem. I eventually gave up and removed the controller card from the PCI slot. Once i did that every thing worked fine. There is deffinatly a problem with haveing too many controlers on that board. Asus was no real help on solving the problem either. I think it's more a promise issue.

Hi,

Nope i dont think its a promise issue,
Before i enable the onboard SATA I tried to put in an extra ULTRA 133 and also tested with a SIS 0680 based IDE controller,

Got the same result with both of thoose controllers..

I think it has something with the motherboard..

Gonna mail both the support of promise and ASUS and see what they say.

I´m not happy to have an SATA 250 gig disked which i cant utilize
