Best wireless PCI card supported by Linux?

I need to buy a 802.11b Wireless PCI card. What is the best model/brand that will work without pb under linux?

Are you looking for a wireless card for a laptop? if so, then you might mean PCMCIA. For PCMCIA, I prefer the old Orinoco 802.11b cards (the ones with the square black antenna) that uses the orinoco_cs driver. The driver is already a part of the more recent kernels. Do note that it seems like ppl are having trouble with the newer Proxim Orinoco 802.11b cards (round, more futuristic antennas) because they changed the chipset.

Also, you might want to look into the Orinoco 802.11a/b/g PCMCIA cards. It uses the Atheros chipset, and the driver is currently in its beta phase (meaning that its finally released! yaaa!)

As of PCI? er, don't know. But just out of curiosity, why would you want to buy a wireless PCI card for a PCI slot on a desktop? You can't exactly tote your desktop around, can you?

Thank you guys but my problem is simple:

I have a desktop in a room that cannot have any Net connexion except wireless one. Moreover I cannot change the room for my desktop location; That's the reason why I am looking for a wireless PCI card for my desktop so that I would be able to connect to the Net thu my wireless access point.

If you are aware of any just let me kwow

Yeah I am in the same boat. I have a Cisco lab upstairs in a room which has no connectivity so I want the wireless access to config it from anywhere in the house, desktop, laptop, hammock in the garden ;).

I can't tell you what a good one is to get but I can tell you do NOT get a minitar card hehe. I bought one and am having no end of troubles with it. granted it is being run up on a really old computer but it is anything but easy. The PCMCIA card which I also bought runs wonderfully on WinXp though.

I was using a Linksys WMP11 until recently without any problems. No ndswraper or any thing Ubuntu 8.04 supported it out of the box. I am switching to a 802.11g card to get better signal and throughput.

The D-Link DWA-510 802.11b/g is working well for me. about 50$ in Australia.

You say your looking for a PCI card, but have you considered a usb stick? I've got an Edimax EW-7318USg and its very good. It was only £10 ($15), and the driver is included in the newer kernels.
