I don't know if this is being posted in the right forum or not, but I need to know. Without using ndiswrapper or any other external software, is there any 802.11g wireless card built into any kernel (preferably 2.4 because I'm using slackware), and if there is what are they. I'm not really good (but I guess if I have to I can) at looking for chipsets. I am kind of hoping that you will suggest brand and model.
idk about being built in to the kernel but ndiswrapper isnt difficut to use once you understand it i use a belkin G high speed card with ndis wrapper and it works perfectly if you decide to use it and have any questions about ndiswrapper id be glad to anwser any questions
I throughly sugest belkin they have wonderful lifetime waranties my antenna broke off my card (and i mean broke not just a mater of a replace ment it broke) they sent me a brand new card free.
Iknow the F5D7000 works instantly on suse 10 no ndisw required but i havent messed with slack
The problem is vendors often change chipsets without changing model numbers. There may be 5 versions of the same card out there with no easy way to tell the difference. For example my Linksys WPC54G has a ACX 111 chipset, but it could have had a Broadcom BCM94306, Broadcom BCM4318, Marvell 88w8335, or a IPROCOMM IPN 2220 chipset.
I haven't had any problem using ndiswrapper to get my cards to work. I have a Dlink DWL-G630, Linksys WPC54G and a laptop with a built in Broadcom 4318 wireless card. They all work flawlessly with ndiswrapper, I have the Linksys card running on FreeBSD 6 using ndisulator. Even the activate/deactivate button works on the front of my Broadcom powered laptop.
Using ndiswrapper isn't really hard, my first time took me 3 hours to get everything working properly. Now I can set it up in a matter of minutes.

I have setup ndiswrapper to use my Motorola Wireless Notebook Adapter WN825G, and it's kind of funny. I usually use DSL's automatic setup (when I tried manual I never got it to work)(and DSL seems to be the only one that runs on my old P1 laptop). A few months ago I used DSL and I think I got it to work pretty good for a couple hours or so then it froze the system. Now I try it and the second webpage I go to freezes the system. I just can't seem to win with Ndiswrapper so I was thinking about buying a new wireless card that worked flawlessly with linux. DSL supports the 2.4 kernel as well as slackware. Those really would be the only two that I use. But if you could maybe send some instructions on setting it up manually and possibly diagnose my problem I'd really apprectiate it.
P.S. I have tried every driver for my card I can think of. My last chance is to possibly find my cd and pray that those will be the drivers that work. But if the suggestion is trying updated drivers, I already have.
Rock on, I found the drivers that work with my card. However I'm still only able to use it using Damn Small Linux's Graphical Frontend. I was wondering if anyone could post the instructions so I know what DSL is doing, because it seems like all the other instructions I've followed fail to work.
I know this thread is really old but just in case someone had the same situation as me, it seems that only a very specific set of drivers seems to work for this card. The drivers are version 1.1 revision number 3.40.20.0 and can only be downloaded from driversguide.com. However because of their weird registration (almost shareware internet) practices I'm considering if enough people respond to this thread setting up my own completely free download link and posting that here.
