Hi

Most video cameras use the 1394 port because it is faster than USB 2. If your motherboard doesn't have onboard 1394 ports, that is the card you should buy. Then you will need a /dev/raw1394 support in your kernel, and if your don't already have it it may require compiling your kernel for it.

For video capturing software, Kino is IMHO us best. There is plenty of information by googling around and in this forum.

If you want additional help, you will nee to specify your camera and your Linux distribution.

Hope this helps,

Bob

you probably want to look at the hauppauge cards.. the PVR-350 is a nice card with hardware mpeg encoding..

http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/produ...ta_pvr350.html

here is the database of hardware used for Linux based PVR's as you can see the Hauppauge cards are quite poplar.. I would stay away from anything that does not have a hardware Mpeg encoder.. (low end cards) http://pvrhw.goldfish.org/tiki-pvrhwdb.php

The PVR-350 has both an S-Video input as well as an antenna input to attach to your cable or TV antenna..

Hope that helps

err apparently you didn't follow the links I provided to the MYTH TV LINUX PVR Hardware Database where it's posted that ALL those people are using the hauppauge cards in LINUX...

If that's not proof enough they work in Linux I really don't know what to tell you.
