best clone method?
Hi,
I'm trying to clone a fedora core 4 installation from a standard pc to a HP xeon based server. I used dd to clone the install piped via ssh directly onto the disk of the hp server. All seemed well. (I've used this method many times in the past with great success). Once I booted I got a kernel panic.
My thoughts are:
Maybe it's looking for an ide device instead of a scsi (cciss) device?
I booted with rescue and changed grub to point at the correct partitions - this got me a little further but more panics.
Maybe the fedora core kernel didn't have the cciss driver?
Not sure how to get around this! I tried an upgrade install, this said it worked, but when I rebooted, the same thing.
I have just blasted away the o/s and I'm re-installing now from scratch. I have a large oracle installation and an application installation on the source server. Would I be better off using dump/restore for the oracle directories and the application directories after I've installed from scratch?
Thanks - sorry for the long winded message,
Tony
