Unhappy Benq 1300 not recognised

I have a HP Pavilion 8882 running Suse 8.2. I want to connect a Benq 1300 camera via USB port. However, when I establish the connection (camera shows the littel symbol indication that it is connected to a computer) nothing happens on the computer.

When I plug in my EasyDisk (512MB) into the same USB port, seconds later I see a new disk drive mounted on the desktop. I expected soemthing similar to happen with the camera (e.g. see a disk drive with lots of jpegs stored on it).

Can anybody help?

PS: Except this SuSE works just wonderful.

i would pick up this subject again.
i have benq dc1300, kernel 2.6.5 and gphoto installed. usb modules are loaded. but no go, the camera is not detected. cable is fine, camera itself beeps and display's the PC status on LCD. at work when i used Fedora Core1 packaged kernel 2.4+gphoto+gtkam it detected my camera and fetched the filenames, but was unable to read or delete files.

when i get time i test it with windowz to just be sure that the camera is all right, but this is pretty sure.

so, anybody has it working?

PS. BenQ DC 1300 is listed in gphoto sopported cameras list as "TESTING", but however, it would still be nice to fetch the images.

?

I was thinking it was a standard usb cam not a digital still camera... Good luck; I have had no experience using a digital camera on a linux box... Also I would recommend starting a new thread as most likely your post won't get seen I would think ... The only reason I know anything about it is an email notification....

If you haven't tried googling it .. I suggest it... I find most of the answers I need there..

Angry Benq DC1300

I also have problems with my Benq DC1300. I've managed to download my movies/sounds/photos with gphoto2 (command line). The front-end program digikam is also pick up my camera and allow me to download.

It seems that the Benq 1300 is not a mass storage device.

Hope this help you.
