Belkin SUN Adapter, SAMSUNG SyncMaster and ULTRA1 don't work.
I have a SUN ULTRA1 running Aurora linux connected to my new SAMSUNG SyncMaster 2333 via a Belkin SUN Adapter F1D082.
After modifying the /etc/X11/XF86Config file as follows:
Horizontal Sync 30.0-81.0
Vertical Refresh 56.0-75.0
and adding
Modeline "1920x1080@60" 182.28 1920 1952 2640 2672 1080 1102 1113 1135 -hsync -vsync
I get an excellent image.
Trouble is it flashes. Maybe a second of image followed by a couple seconds of black. Over and over and over. I have not found an adjustment on the SAMSUNG that affects this behavior.
I discovered that if I unplug and reinsert the small round eleven pin connector into the ULTRA, the image on the screen stops flashing. It now is very blurry and shifted to the left, but it works. This is not a solution to the problem.
What do you think makes the SAMSUNG keep flashing on and off?

Sync issue is my guess.
How to fix it I don't know, might try any other monitor to see if it holds on.

Have you verified that the resolution is supported by the monitor? What's the native resolution of the monitor? And where did you get that modeline? Are you sure it's correct?
Now, I don't know anything about a SUN machine, but is this verbatim, from the file?:
Horizontal Sync 30.0-81.0
Vertical Refresh 56.0-75.0
I ask because I've never seen it so different from:
HorizSync 30.0-81.0
VertRefresh 56.0-75.0
but then, like I said, I haven't a clue what this OS or machine are like, or what version of X it's running.
Sasha
PS - I have two Samsung WM2243's going, with no such issues.

Thank you Sasha and Jefro,
The modeline came from the WEB. It works. Prior to that modification I got no picture at all. Now I get a perfect image for a few seconds. Then blackness for a few.
More than you have suggested that my problem must be with the sync. Horizontal Sync is in khz. Vertical Refresh is in hz. Which one? What way to go? Any guesses? What exactly do these terms mean when referring to a plasma monitor?

How about looking through /var/log/xorg.0.log or the equivalent location for your machine, for clues? Maybe post the log for us? Wouldn't hurt to post the xorg.conf either.
