Belkin Omniview KVM DVI with USB stops responding when switching back to SuSE
 

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me with a niggling problem I have. I have searched the forum but couldn't find an answer to my problem.

I am using SuSE 10.0 and switching between this and an XP machine using a Belkin Omniview 2 port DVI USB KVM. On returning back to SuSE the USB keyboard and mouse stops responding.

Now the weird bit. If I just hit the power button to shutdown the system just before close down the keyboard and mouse come back to life i.e the red eye on the infrared mouse comes back on.

Its as if on switch back to SuSE the USB devices aren't refreshed.

Can anyone please offer some advice on how I can stop this happening?

Welcome to LQ! Several years ago I had a similar problem with a Belkin KVM, where I had connected one Windows machine and one Linux machine. Basically, regardless of which machine I started from, I could always toggle over to the other machine successfully, but on the return trip, the keyboard and mouse would die (video was fine however). The only way I could fix it would be to reboot, which was incredibly frustrating and pretty much defeated the purpose of having the KVM in the first place. My eventual solution was to just dump the Belkin and replace it with a different brand/model (a Trendnet TK-401R if you're interested) The complicating factor as I see it is just that because a KVM is external to the box, and (to my knowledge) there aren't really any "KVM configuration" settings in either Windows or Linux, it just wasn't something that I could adjust.

Maybe things have changed since I was dealing with it, and hopefully others will have better recommendations than my admittedly feeble "solution", but FWIW that was my experience. Good luck with it

Thanks for your welcome, reply and suggestion J. W. The prob is I need a DVI KVM and found it a right pain to get hold of one let alone have a (sensibly priced) choice - bummer. For me Windows doesn't seem to have the problem of refreshing the connected USB devices its just the linux box. As you say a reboot does sort things (isn't that the cure for all computer probs - chuckle) but is a right pain and as you say totally defeats the point of having the KVM. Maybe I should contact Belkin tech support.

I have actually got a similar issue. I just loaded Suse 10.0 and am also using a Belkin Omniview (SVGA, USB) KVM switch. My problem is that whenever I switch to the linux box, it won't stay. Mouse and keyboard work fine, but after a short amount of time, the switch will kick back over to my Windows box, as if it isn't getting any signal. I have used this switch for years on the Linux machine as it used to be my main windows pc before I upgraded a few months ago.
