Before I go out and buy a router....
 

Hi, I have got a USB ADSL modem which dosn`t seem to be supported by Linux, at least not if your ISP uses dynamic IP addresses not static. If I went out and bought myself a router with a ADSL modem built in could I do away with my current USB modem altogether?

Another option that I have thought about is getting a router without a built in modem (slightly cheaper) but allows USB connectivity to to modems, if I did this would I still need to have the modem drivers for Linux or would the router sort it all out by itself?

Your usb modem would need to connect to the router, so you couldn't do without it.

Most routers that share a connection require ethernet connection. So I would check with your DSL modem if it has a connection via ethernet. This will also require your machines to have ethernet, instead of connecting via USB, as these routers usually don't connect via usb, only ethernet.

No, my modem dosn`t have a enthernet connection, sadly, would have prefered it if it did.

Still not sure about getting the router with built in modem.... would this solve all my problems, assuming that the router is supported by linux? Would there be any issues with the ISP and me changing modems? I know that there were a few when a friend did but that was using a cable connection not DSL
