Yea hi i have a gateway 500se that has the BCM V.90 56K Modem. Same problem linux can't detect it. I tried heading to that link of yours and my browser said the file didn't exist. I am using however, Knoppix 3.7

I'll see if I can find the driver, this is the only modem I've ever had luck with, but the driver won't work with a 2.6 kernel, I've gotten dsl sinse I've figured it out, in fact I've become quite good with linux, but I hope I can help, I'll post it as soon as I find the driver...

New Source for Driver
Just found this source that still has the driver mentioned in the tutorial
