battery not recognised-----bios help needed in ubuntu

my perfectly functioning dell battery suddenly stopped charging.after 2 days it got rectified on its own.a week later,it again stopped.so i checked in dell forums and i got to know that sometimes because of communication failure between battery and bios, bios shuts it down.i learnt that i have to first check if the battery is listed recognised in my bios.i have no idea how to do that.any help?

thanks...

It depends on which Dell Notebook Model you own.
Some Inspirion Notebook doesn't show the Charge/Discharge State of the Battery in the Bios, but some do.
All Latitude Series Notebooks do show the Charge/Discharge State of the Battery in the Bios.
So the FAQ you've read there is not for ALL Dell Products the same!
(Enter the BIOS with F2)

If you've applied the latest BIOS Update for you're Notebook and it still doesn't charge.
Try with another Power Supply an maybe try another Power Source, if still failes I hope you've got warrenty.
Cause if the Chargerboard is defective your Motherboard has to be replaced. (Worth case)
If Power Supply or / Battery is defective within Warrenty then Replace it.
If out of warrenty you'll have to definitly figure out if it's the motherboard, power supply or battery.
Btw. Battery is treated like toner for a printer. It's a part with only a limited lifetime.
e.g You've got 3 yrs, NBD Service but the Battery won't never has 3 years only 1 year.

Hope that helps.

good bye.

PS: If your Notebook isn't supported running Ubuntu Dell don't has to listen to your problems... they can and they will tell you that you've to use a supported os.

mine is inspiron 1520.one and half years old.the battery was charging and working fine when charged with another charger.but my charger just powers up and does not charge.i thought it is the problem with my adapter but the dell forum insists that its bios problem....

also i looked into the bios set up the battery section displayed AC ADAPTER=UNKNOWN DEVICE INSTALLED.this shows the bios shut down the battery.how do i resume charging?
