Question Bad sound quality from SB 128 PCI on FC4 64-bit

Hello all!

I posted this question before, but I don't think I got any responses, unfortunately. This might be a tough one.

So, here's my story... I've got Fedora Core 4 (Release 2.6.1-11.1369_FC4, 64 bit) running on my snazzy new Athlon 64 3000-powered computer. My motherboard came with a bothersome on-board soundcard which for some reason or another (I forget why) I ended up bypassing with a Soundblaster 128. On my Windows partitian, everything is hunky-dory.

In Fedora, not so much. I think Fedora did detect the correct soundcard. My multimedia Audio controller is listed as "Ensoniq 5880 AudioPCI" (Apparently, Creative Labs used an Ensoniq chip on their lower-end sound cards). However, the problem is that there is a constant loud buzzing coming from my speakers as soon as Linux loads up the audio drivers. Also, if I attempt to play any sounds or music, it comes out sounding as if its being transmitted from a weak AM radio station! Very staticky (is 'staticky' a word? )

So I headed on over to Creative Labs' website looking to see if they offer current Linux drivers for the SB128 PCI. No such luck. I think they want me to break down & buy a current soundcard.

I did some Google searches & received few promising hits... the ones that did look as though they might be talking about a similar problem were unfortunately not in English

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas for me?
