backup device

Hello,

We have a linux server with a backup tape driver on RH9.0. Now the backup tape driver has trashed. We are thinking to replace it by a DVD RW driver. Does anyone know if the RH9.0 supports DVD 4G RW driver or not? Secondly is it easy to use DVD RW for file backup? Will be any negtive impact?

Thank you.

Jim

Surely will. I can't imagine how you can fit as much data into a DVD than you can into a tape - also as tapes have been used for backing data up for long, I think they're today much easier to use than DVDs since DVD discs are used mostly for other things. Having said that, I don't see any big reason why a DVD wouldn't work, if the drive just works (and probably it does).
