yast will not do live update on suse 8.2 personal

i am a newbie on linux but being a computer Eng. i did not have any problems installiing so far except yast will not do an on line update it just freezes .

My spec that i am running linux personal on is a dual intel pII 333 with 3 scsi 4 gb hard disk, a nvidia geoforce 2 mx, crystal sound on motherboard and intel net card.

The problem is so i can access my internet provider (aol) to go online with this machine i ahve to access my main pc through a proxy server accross my network. My other machine use microsoft xp and the analogx proxy server as it is a freeware proxy server accross my network.

I have managed to configure mozilla, netscape web browsers and konqueror to access the net as i am typing this on my linux machine.

It just that i cannot get the update checker "you" to work, whenever i start it it just seem s to start and then keeps saying checking.
when i try to do web update check on YaST2 it freezes and i ahve to logoff to cancel the prog wont even abort.

I hope somebody can help
andy

For starters, dont ever try to close you update checker. It will time out on its own after a few minutes. Second, pick a different server to try to download from. The default one usually doesnt work.
