Automatic recoginiton of new hard drives and growing in new space in raid array

If anyone's familiar with Infrant's ready NAS products then they know about X-Raid's ability to detect a new disk and it's ability to add it's space to the raid array.

Is there a linux equivalent that's automatic or manual?
