Audio works on one program at a time, internet video bad refresh rate

I'm currently running OpenSUSE 11 and am having some problems...
First the audio.
If i have a program running something with audio (say i'm running firefox and watching a youtube video) and start another program that requires sound (like skype or VLC) the second program will not have access to the audio driver and have a playback error. I don't know how to look up my hardware info, but i never had this problem before... SUSE came with pulse audio and alsa. Maybe thats the problem?...

Second the video.
I like to watch my youtube videos... and they are... jummpy might be a good word for it...I can't enlarge it, if i go full screen the audio starts getting jummpy too and the video slows to only a fram a second or something... i think its a refresh rate problem, but i currently don't know anything about video and audio in linux.

I have a different intel graphics chip but just incase, check in your display settings that you are using the intel driver and have hardware acceleration enabled. Another thing for the video, if the above two settings are already enabled open a console and run

glxgears for a few moments then enter

export INTEL_BATCH=1 then run

glxgears again to see if it improves your frame rate (do this all from the same console).

Don't know much about the sound
