Audio driver

Hi friends,

I am having a system in which both WinXP and linux-2.6.9-5.ELsmp are installed. This motherboard came with inbuilt Audio controller(INTEL(ICH7)) and AC97 codec:ALC655.

Is there any drivers avaliable for this in Linux....
or
Anybody knows how to write drivers for this in linux

Sounds pretty standard. It should already be built into the kernel. You might have to update yours. Which distro do you use?

Hi Monsm,

I am using Redhat Linux,that does not support this audio controller.....

If you check the Linux HCL (hardware compatibility list) here on LQ, in the main menu to the right, you'll find several hits. I did see ICH5 mentioned at least. Do your machine have 2? I am sure I have used AC97 on an old Suse machine in the past.
Drivers are delivered in the kernel and your kernel is pretty old.Fedora is the free Red Hat Sponsored distro. You could try to upgrade to the latest Fedora.
Which CPU do your machine have? If you have an old pentium or something, you might have to compile your own kernel.
