Linux - Hardware This forum is for Hardware issues. need your pc specs.
could you please inform us on what Linux distro you are using. the type of PC you are using. this would be a big help. The fm801 chip has been supported a long time in the linux kernel.
Here is a quick commands to see if your card is loaded.
to see output devices
Code:
aplay -l
To see input devices
Code:
arecord -l
to show the sound modules "drivers" you may have to be root or super user for this command.
Code:
lsmod | grep snd
for list of your devices
Code:
lspci
for usb devices
Code:
lsusb
most likely you will need to set up alsa so your default device is your sound card not
your video card with digital sound.
I would like to see the output to the first two I asked for plus the operating system.
if this is a google chrome and flashplayer problem also then there is a few reasons. but bad play back is caused by at least 5 reasons and they branch off to many other.

first of right now your default device is your nvidia hdmi card. and the reason say like gnome-player and mplayer etc are even using your onboard audio card is because thats the way they build the programs to look for your full duplex card.
Quote:
If I was you I would set my /default card snd_fm801 in my /etc/modprobe.d sound.conf for slot 0
I asked for simple stuff about your hardware. and the usual reply to that is cpu and motherboard. Now since I have no clue what cpu or how much ram or what kernel your using . You need to set your default output as your sound card not digital sound on.

right now it is slot 1 . but if you have an old 1.8ghz single core cpu with 1 gig of ram. then I guess I guess we need to know what system what kernel what hardware you are using.
I also have 14.04 install to compile stuff for 0ubuntu and I am sure your card is well handled. I gues your using unity desktop environment this means we are also dealing with pulseaudio sample rates and only have partial alsa installed.

YOUR aplay default OUTPUT
Code:
tarjeta 0: CK804 [NVidia CK804], dispositivo 0: Intel ICH [NVidia CK804]
  Subdispositivos: 1/1
YOU arecord default INPUT.
Code:
tarjeta 0: CK804 [NVidia CK804], dispositivo 0: Intel ICH [NVidia CK804]
  Subdispositivos: 1/1
now your pulse audio is doing all the sample rate. get your /etc/modprobd.d/sound.conf set up.

here the ubuntu way i do not believe they could make it anymore complex. since they have two sound servers doing one job.
