I have a kenwood receiver that is plugged in via digital coaxial SP/DIF, and I would like to continue using this, as it sounds very good. Please don't make me revert to my old "computer speakers" as they are for ass.
I'm sure you need much more information from me, as this probably only scratches the surface. Please don't hesitate to ask.
If you are used to using a command line program called "amixer" you could run a simple command. . .but you said you were new to linux so we will do things a bit different.
Now you do have your sound card driver loaded right? If not fire up YaST and get it setup. . .
Then to enable Digital out do this. . .
Fire up a program called Kmix (note: I am NOT talking about Kamix, there is no 'a' in this program. . . just kmix)
if you don't have it, install it off the SuSE DVD (or CDs).. .
when you have it open,
click the advanced button,
a small set of green circles will appear in the bottom area of the window.
the last one on the right. . .(or 2nd to last, my memory is fuzzy) will read "Audigy Analoge/Digital Output" or something like that.
Click it once so the green circle goes bright green (so it is on)
