Attention DirecWay users! Good news..

Finally Direcway has introduced a Sat modem that uses ethernet and not the dreaded windows only usb connection. The link is here

http://dssweb01.mydirecway.com/mydw/...y/dw6-faqs.jsp

This means we can now connect our Linux servers/clients directly to the Sat modem with no venerable windows machines in the way. Woohoo!:D

edit: stupid cap lock key

Isn't it though. I am so glad I placed my order yesterday. Had to double check my reciept to make sure I would be getting a 6000.

rshaw 10-03-2003 02:56 PM

had it years ago on a win box, was/is the only option for broadband in my one-horse town.

I just ordered my direcway dish and it should get installed this wensday. I was wondering if anyone has had success with this dish and the dw6000? do you have the have the nameserver ip address's to get online or any tricks to it?

Thanks

set the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 and dhcp takes care of the rest. for max browser speed open your browser prefs. and enable the http proxy, use 192.168.0.1 port 87.

bgriesi 12-01-2003 08:45 PM

Does it have to be 192.168.0.1? The only reason I ask is my whole network is set up 192.168.2.X that's all. That and i was thinking of getting a new router i just have not considered which one to get I see they have these firewall routers? THanks for the quick response.

You can change it's lan address in the configurator if I am not mistaken. I will check when I get home.

Post back what kind of bandwidth you get. I would like to get it but it is expensive. I'm on fixed income so ya know.

Has to be better than 24K though.

Thanks

:D :D :D :D

Well finally got this direcway set up and it seems alright i guess. my download stream is at 647kb/s and my upload is 28kb/s according to dslreports speed test. Tproblem I am having though now is that all my buddies that have comcast or road runner service I can not seem to email them because I get some error that the ISP ip address is being blocked??? I emailed this to the direcway support and hopefully will find a reason for this.

the setup was easy on my MAC and my slack box. my PC was more difficult I am not sure why. Windows was just has problems.

Pcghost 12-10-2003 10:38 AM

I am pretty satisfied with Direcway, except their tech support which still sucks (spent 1.5 hours on hold the other day). I haven't experienced any mail problems, but I know a lot of Earthlink mail is bouncing these days as spam. I tried to explain to Earthlink tech support that they were operating an open relay (I received spam relayed off my own account) but the tech support guy said that is was not possible that the great and powerful Earthlink could be an open relay. So I forwarded the 200+ spam messages from Earthlink accounts that we received (in one day) to abuse@earthlink.net. I wonder if the same thing is happening to Direcway? Ostrich syndrome..

bgriesi 12-11-2003 04:49 AM

Well you are very rigth on there support. these last tow night that i have had this dish at night I have a hard time getting to certain web sites. But like right now it running pretty good here at 5:30am SO I think that the bandwidth really drops at night when everyone else gets online? I sent my email problem to abuse@direcway.com and hopefully they can fix there problme./

Make sure the internet accelerator (ie proxy) is running on the 6000, it sped up my browsing quite a bit, and as for downloads they are usually fast enough for my tastes.

bgriesi 12-12-2003 06:02 PM

What do you mean proxy running on the d6000? How would you check that?

Pcghost 12-12-2003 06:09 PM

The Direcway 6000 IGU has a built in proxy. It can be checked by going to the router with a browser and checking system status. As it is built in to the router it doesn't require a special port assignment. All http traffic is routed through it if it is enabled automatically.
