ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M - UBUNTU MAVERICK
 
First.. Hello to all.
I have a problem with my video card since I installed Ubuntu Maverick.
Compiz is working, I have Desktop effects and everything but.. i have a lot of troubles too.
I can't watch full size video in youtube (it's very slow or totally freezing every time i try fullscreen option). Google Earth working, but when zoomed too much (to see map closer), i am seeing a lot of lines and strange pixels.
Everything was working good on CentOS, but after getting into Ubuntu.. something went wrong. I think the problems are coming from the drivers.

I followed this guide - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver - for installing everything again, and I also added the Xorg Edgers PPA (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa).
When I have xserver-xorg-video-radeon & ati drivers installed, my system have all the problems listed above and don't have 3d acceleration (which I need a lot for running Cedega and VMWare).

I can watch full size video at youtube, my computer hibernates and wakes up after (which is causing a lot of problems if I'm using the xorg-ati & radeon, laptop freezes requiring hard restart).
I can use Google Earth without having troubles, but.. still can't run Cedega and VM, because I don't pass the tests for 3d acceleration.

You're all over the place here.

Your first glxinfo and glxgears output (when you say "(while having the drivers installed)") show the correct output, however. You say you don't have 3D acceleration, but you clearly do. What makes you think you don't have 3D acceleration?

The bottom glxinfo shows that you have the LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT variable set, which is going to automatically disable direct rendering and defeat the purpose of running glxinfo.

Sorry if my post is not good organized or.. somehow mistaken, I'm not advanced user of Linux.

The tests Cedega and VMWare runs at startup makes me think my 3d acceleration is not working, because it clearly shows that i fail the tests for direct rendering and 3d acc.
If try playing games with wine, i have very poor quality, and the picture is constantly freezing.

Well, first, last time I tried cedega, the way it tested for 3D acceleration was to run glxgears and look for a high framerate. Which is complete and utter rubbish. You can not determine whether 3D acceleration is available that way.

Second, vmware requires a certain level of OpenGL support before it will enable 3D acceleration. Namely, OpenGL 2.1 must be supported along with the GL_S3_s3tc extension. I'm not even sure whether the Xpress 200M supports OpenGL 2.1 in hardware. If it does, it will certainly only be supported in the latest Gallium3d Mesa driver. S3TC also requires using a recent version of the Gallium3D driver, a very recent kernel, and installing the external DXTN library.

As for games with wine... Bear in mind that the Xpress 200M is, well, a very crappy GPU. It's very low power, has no support for hardware TCL, and uses the system RAM rather than it's own RAM. You might get better performance with the gallium3d, but your card will never be a workhorse and trying to play recent games will likely just leave you frustrated.

According to wikipedia (who are normally very good on this sort of thing) the X200 does support Open GL 2.1.

@ beliya- You might find that the newer open source drivers could help as well. Try adding the xorg-edgers PPA.
