Again, problems

fglrx V3.9.0 installed fine, I did everything without errors, but 3D doesn't work.
Here my lsmod

Where is the problem?
I already rebootet completely.

What does your X logfile (/var/log/Xorg.0.log or /var/log/XFree86.0.log most likely) have to say about it? It is very useful to browse the logs when you're having problems, and the X logs are very verbous and even makes educated guesses about what the problem might be.

Yea I have the *exact* same problem!!! I'm running Slack10[2.4.26] with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (previously a 9200se) on an nForce2 chipset. I have never been able to get the hardwarerendering to work, even in slack9.1[2.6]. I've installed the drivers correctly, even had others install the drivers to make sure. But this is weird check this out:

root@logik:~/01.Files/02.Themes/icons# lsmod | grep -e agpgart -e fglrx
fglrx 179912 0
agpgart 43940 0 (unused)
root@logik:~/01.Files/02.Themes/icons# fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.4 Mesa 5.0.2)

root@logik:~/01.Files/02.Themes/icons#

It says that i'm running MESA glx when I clearly should be running the ATI fglrx modules?! Any ideas?

I tried DRM as module and tried to compile it into the kernel, but the logfile always says:

(WW) fglrx(0): ***********************************************
(WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! *
(WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available *
(WW) fglrx(0): ********************************************* *
(II) fglrx(0): FBADPhys: 0xd0000000 FBMappedSize: 0x08000000

I was reading something that 2.4 and below dont have nForce agp support. But apparently in 2.6 its fixed. So I'm trying 2.6 right now.

Heres the link, its poorly translated, but it should help a little. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks, but I was already there
On my Laptop (VIA KT400a) it worked perfectly. With Kernel 2.4. Why is there such a prob with nvidia? Can't these guys at ATI add NForce support to the driver?

I'm not really sure if it is really the NForce, maybe there is another problem..

However, I'm going to install the rpm's provided by SuSE, they really work. On 2.4 AND 2.6.
See ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/sup.../X/XFree86/ATI for more details.
I don't really like this solution 'cause it's limited to one distro- SuSE

ok ... try this. however you want to enable this..

The nforce 2 board is somewhat new to the linux kernel still .. I believe it should work with 2.4.22 or later... It's a sticky issue.. maybe nvidia didn't want rival cards to be able to use their boards? who knows..

But enable support for external AGP in fglrxconfig..and make sure the DRM support is modular in the kernel..

YOU NEED TO SEE THIS IN dmesg.

agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 203M
agpgart: Detected NVIDIA nForce2 chipset
agpgart: AGP aperture is 32M @ 0xd8000000

and the following in you xfree/xorg log

II) fglrx(0): [agp] Mode=0x1f000217 bridge: 0x10de/0x01e0
(II) fglrx(0): [agp] AGP v1/2 disable mask 0x00000000
(II) fglrx(0): [agp] AGP v3 disable mask 0x00000000
(II) fglrx(0): [agp] enabling AGP with mode=0x1f000314
(II) fglrx(0): [agp] AGP protocoll is enabled for grafics board. (cmd=0x1f000314)
(II) fglrx(0): [agp] grafics chipset has AGP v2.0

you should NOT have nvidia_agp module loaded.

ONLY agpgart and fgrlx

also make sure that radeon is NOT loaded...

cheer,

Gary
