ATI Radeon and Santa Cruz sound card...
A little help with Mandrake 10.1 and video/sound drivers. On all other Linux distros Ive used, my sound card (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz) worked perfectly fine without having to do any weird stuff. Now, with this new 10.1 install, I get no sound from anything. The Turtle Beach site isnt much help.. anybody know how to get this working?
Also, I noticed that when I installed 10.1 it said that the community download version does not come with proprietary drivers for video cards. I'm running an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and would like to get 3d acceleration working. I tested that little glxgears program and it worked, but I only got 150 FPS or so at default size. Also, when trying to play games in 3D (Tested steam/counter-strike) the game runs fine, but I get about .5 FPS. Any idea where I can update my drivers? The ones on the ATI site will not install, it says theres a conflict with some other package.

Have you tried running alsaconf (as root) and also alsamixer (as the regular user)? I'm not familiar with Mandrake, but by default, the alsa settings usually are muted, and need to be turned up. Additionally, does your mobo have onboard sound? If so, you may need to disable it in BIOS.
Also, have you checked the "obvious" items - speakers are plugged in, turned on, volume knob is turned up, etc. Good luck with it -- J.W.

Hi, Darktalon96.
I've been through similar things with my Radeon 9600 XT in Mandrake 10 Official. The thread where I finally got it all figured-out is:

I hope this helps. Now if I can only get it working in Slackware...
Good luck.
