I'm using 2.6.0-test11-gentoo-r2 and have mtrr compiled in, and agpgart and my nforce2 mobo as modules, I don't have drm or dri installed, I tried to emerge the ati drivers but it fails to build, anyone know why? how could I set it up once I get the drivers? I ran fglrxconfig and all that and tried startx but it gives errors.

Did you run opengl-update to switch back to xfree GL before rebuilding the ati-drivers? That's caused problems for me in the past. If it isn't that then what's the error message you receive exactly? The ati-drivers *should* build alright under 2.6, the ebuilds apply the necessary patches automatically. It's getting them working afterward that's the problem. I can get as far as being able to start X (after discovering that under 2.6 agpgart, nvidia-agp and fglrx have to be loaded before you try and start X and the DRM is best disabled. None of this was necessary under 2.4) but I get all kinds of wierd window drawing behaviour and the window manager (but not the system itself, tasks running before it "hung" will continue to run until you press the reset button) hanging up if I run glxgears (and probably anything that uses 3D as well). If anyone can help me with that I'd be extremely grateful as I don't want to have to use these shite DRI (I recompiled the kernel and unmerged the ati-drivers so I could at least get a GUI, I compile DRI support out the moment I get something new to try on the ati-drivers front) drivers any longer than I have to.
