tv out works only in CONSOLE!

i have slackware 9.1 (just installed)
renamed /lib/modules/moduleversion (backup)
recompiled kernel for smp support
uninstalled alsa driver package
installed same alsa driver VER from source
Everything works
except... tv out in X
I have a SamSung 20 " TXN2034F analog tv
ntsc std.
What would I have to set my horizonal/vertical refresh rates to be?
I tried everything.. almost
including a call to samsung which is unavailable at this moment
IF someone out there knwos the answer, plzz
