ATI module can't compile

hi everyone
I managed to get the 2d driver working from ATI for my x1400, but the installer tries to compile the module for 3d and spits out this error in the log.
kernel includes at /lib/modules/2.6.17-2-686/build/include not found or incomplete
file: /lib/modules/2.6.17-2-686/build/include/linux/version.h
[Error] Kernel Module : Failed to compile kernel module - please consult readme.

I installed kernel sources and modules from apt. What else can I do? The repo driver doesn't do anything btw.

Have you installed the kernel source or, at least, the headers? The message you're getting is generated when the compiler can't find the information needed to build a kernel module. (Information about the kernel, not the application, so it comes from the kernel source or development headers.)

alright I fixed it. what happened was i was running a older kernel (2.6.17) but installed the latest sources and headers. I upgraded the kernel and it works perfectly now
