ATI FireGL X1 drivers for AMD64 ???

Hi,
I have installed SUSE 9.0 for AMD64 on a dual opteron workstation with an ATI FGL X1. I haven't found any drivers for the graphic card yet, ATI only provides them for Linux/i386 and they are closed-source.
BUT I have heard there is some beta driver for Linux64, and I was wondering if anybody has heard about it.

Any hints?

Stefano

I just want to say, I'm having the exact same problem with Mandrake 10.0 from the AMD 64. flgrx appears to be installed from the distro, 3d programs load normally, but the actual 3d acceleration is as slow as if I didn't have any 3d acceleration at all. We need fglrx drivers for the AMD 64.

Good to see I'm not the only one with this problem. Someone help.

Did you try calling ATI?
Showing interest in a company's products and asking for better support is one of the best things you can do to speed up driver releases and hardware support from vendors. Be polite and to the point. It can actually do quite a lot if you get to talk to the right person - ask for someone who can walk you through getting 3D acceleration working under XFree86 on Linux.

I suggest everybody who has the same problem to _politely_ hammer the ATI Driver Feedback, as I just did, so they will take the problem in account. It is not about a $50 board, and most of us NEED it to work. I already wrote them once two weeks ago, and I couldn't see ANY feedback.

Maybe I will consider phoning to Germany (unfortunately, in Italy there isn't any ATI support center).

Any further suggestion (also about that beta version...) is highly appreciated.

EDIT

i've got myself into a similar situation also. an exchange of emails with ATI can be summerized as follows:

* there is no set date to release linux64 drivers for ati firegl cards
* there are no plans to offer linux64 support to any cards before the FGL8700, but that should not effect the x1-128
* more info: http://www.ati.com/products/catalyst/linux.html

so, maybe there will be some love from ATI by end of year
